13 JUNE 2016 MAGAZINE COVERS AND WHAT WE THINK OF THEM
There is no doubt about it – print is dying in the
Philippines.
Proof: One Mega Group’s Meg is now bimonthly. Their Inside
Showbiz magazine is now just a weekly digital magazine. And their Celebrity Mom
title also folded recently. Summit has also lost some titles, such as Smart
Parenting, Women’s Health, and Men’s Health.
It’s not completely dead yet, so there’s still hope! In the
meantime, here are some titles that are still alive, and what we think of their
latest issues.
1. James Reid and Nadine Lustre for Preview
Not exactly a fan of Nadine’s bangs, facial expression, and
posture, but as for James... wow, he looks perfect in this shot. Love their
clothes and the background and the color palette, too.
2. James Reid and Nadine Lustre for Preview
We love Nadine in this cover more (as opposed to the other
one); she’s rocking the pink leather jacket and we love the Cleopatra vibe she
is giving. James, as usual, is perfection.
3. Pia Wurtzbach for Yes!
Congrats to Yes! for scoring this exclusive. We’ve always
wanted to see Miss U’s apartment, and we admit we wanna know a little more
about her relationship with Doc Mike. We wanna see photos from Georgina
Wilson’s wedding, too.
4. Arci Munoz for Cosmopolitan
Perfect cleavage, not-so-perfect face. We mean, we’ve seen
her really, really gorgeous face elsewhere – several times. Not a fan of what
she’s wearing, as well, but it does look good with that pink and purple
palette.
5. Hailee Steinfeld for Candy
Pretty enough cover if you ask us. Pretty simple but
delivers. Very millennial. And this cover proves one or the other, or maybe
even both: Pinay teens love their Hollywood stars, or they’ve run out of local
girls to feature.
6. Rachel Anne Daquis for FHM
Sorry, but we do not know who Rachel Anne Daquis is. All we
can say is the view is nice, plus the swimsuit, too.
7. Rachelle Ann Go for Mega
Great choice for cover star but we’re not a fan of her look
and the styling. Modernized Igorota? Ethnic-futuristic? Basta, may kulang and
we can’t put our finger on it.
8. Sarah Geronimo for Mega
A surprising cover star choice since Sarah as far as we know
is not doing much; she even dropped out of The Voice Kids as mentor and was
replaced by Ate Shawi. That face/facial expression is NAGL and we don’t think
she’s pulling off that couture number. Let's just say we wanted to see a very different Sarah.
9. Charice for Mega Man
Pasabog! Bravo. Imagine if they released this back when they
put Vice Ganda on the cover of Mega magazine, right???
10. Georgina Wilson for Metro
Not bad for something BJ Pascual shot on a Samsung S7,
right? We love the ‘80s vibe, and props to George coz not everyone can pull
this look off, but she mos def did.
11. Toni Gonzaga for StarStudio
In fairness to Toni, she looks good preggers. Looks like a
packed issue, too, with all the interesting photos of JaDine, ToMiho, Ritz
Azul, and Ryan and Juday.
12. Jake Ejercito for Garage
We’re disappointed coz we know Jake is cute and his face
here is meh. And oh, props to the stylist coz we like that FPJ vibe you went
for there.
13. Jake Ejercito for Garage
Jake’s face is a little better here but still meh. And can
you guys stop making that scarf thing work coz no one in the Philippines can
pull it off.
